Mind Body Medicine

Experts estimate that the mind thinks between 60,000 – 80,000 thoughts a day. That’s an average of 2500 – 3,300 thoughts per hour. So if every thought has an effect then our bodies are reacting physically to every chemical message sent from our brain to communicate with our nervous system. The brain sends messages via the spinal cord to peripheral nerves throughout the body that serve to control the muscles and internal organs.

According to the Mayo Clinic, positive thinking is linked to a wide range of health benefits including:

Longer life span
Less stress
Lower rates of depression
Increased resistance to the common cold
Better stress management and coping skills
Lower risk of cardiovascular disease-related death
Increased physical well-being
Better psychological health

So perhaps it’s time to change your thinking from ‘a half empty’ to a ‘half full’ glass and positively impact your overall health and well-being.
